The
Black Political Empowerment Project’s Coalition
Against Violence
Since
February 2007, The Coalition Against Violence has been
actively working to identify and facilitate the
implementation of strategies and initiatives to address
the issue of violence and crime that plagues our
communities. Diligently working to move our documents
from “paper to possibility…from planning to
implementation,” the Coalition Against Violence feels
that we can dramatically shift the paradigm from having
a culture of complacency and complaint about community
violence, to fostering a culture of cooperation and
collaboration that, we strongly feel, can bring about
lasting change and, perhaps, an end to the violence and
crime in our communities.
The
working group of the coalition has produced three very
important documents that have been distributed far and
wide throughout Allegheny County:
The Role of the Family & The Community
Manifesto: A Preamble
Strategies for Change: The Full Document
Coalition Against Violence Community
Services Directory
Two new editions to the forthcoming second edition of the Strategies for Change: Full Document are:
Social Media Strategies
Anti Bullying Strategies
Through the diligent and on-going efforts of the
Coalition Against Violence, community partnerships and
collaborations have been formed with many organizations
including The Metro Urban Institute of the Pittsburgh
Theological Seminary, The Community College of Allegheny
County, The Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh,
University of Pittsburgh, the Housing Authority of the
City of Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Board of Education,
The Christian Associates of Southwestern Pennsylvania,
and many community-based partners.
The
Coalition Against Violence firmly believes that the work
of significantly decreasing the violence in our
communities must be a multi-front, collaborative and
coordinated effort. Furthermore we understand that such
a broad-based endeavor requires long-term commitment and
ongoing, multi-year efforts to implement the strategies
laid forth in our documents. To that end we invite you
to partner with the Black Political Empowerment Project
and the Coalition Against Violence, who support
the efforts of anyone who is working toward the same
end, and that is, to significantly decrease the violence
that has reached crisis proportions.
